With the new launch of ubuntu 16.04(Xenial Xerus) and many drastic new changes in it, you maybe want to upgrade to it! but what if you havent received your upgrade yet??? So without an introduction and in-depth features of ubuntu 16.04 , here’s how you can upgrade to it!

update-ubuntu
There are 2 approaches to this .The first way to do this is to get a fresh copy via torrent or direct download (check the links below) and proceed with the installation. (Youtube for installation of ubuntu)

Get the 32 bit torrent here.

Get the 64 bit torrent here.

Direct download here.

The 2nd approach is to upgrade from our current system to 16.04 via terminal.

1)Press Ctrl+Alt+T – This will open the terminal

2)Execute the commands one after other and press enter. Enter your password wherever asked for,

“sudo apt-get update“. This basically downloads the package lists from the repositories and “updates” them to get information on the newest versions of packages and their dependencies. It will do this for all repositories and PPAs. So this just updates the list of available packages and their versions, but it does not install or upgrade any packages.

sudo apt-get upgrade“. This will fetch new versions of packages existing on the machine if APT knows about these new versions by way of apt-get update. So this command will actually do the installation on the system of the files which you got from previous command.

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade“. This is will upgrade to a new kernel (common enough) or a different set of dependencies (common enough) or remove dependencies that don’t matter after an upgrade (also common). So from the set of dependencies of the previous system, this wil upgrade to new system.

Next, using this command for launch software updater :

“sudo update-manager -d”

You will get this prompt for of software-updater

Software-Updater_001

You will be asked for the confirmation to start upgrade.

Release notes :

Aaaaaand your ubuntu 16.04 is ready to you , enjoy!! 😀

PS: You cant update to 16.04 from anything beyond 12.04(tested).

  • Nice piece of work mr man Worked without a hitch. It’s the the mild mannered clark kent fat head geek-men like you who are extremely helpful in a flash. No bunch of words just to talk about nothing as on the “Hey I need help” page. I is truly you who share immediately active correct method or means that helps people like me enjoy the wonder of that little tv icon open to that thing called the terminal and respond to the commands. Man I like that. You is a “Bad Man”. Thanks
And don’t be eating “whatever digestible” groceries you can get your hands on. Have you lost your mind. Eat tuna fish, baby carrots, tomatoes, romaine lettuce, olive oil on it all with a couple dill pickles and a glass of your favorite. Roam around on That plate my brother.

pickles and a banana thrown on it. Glass of white wine
    respond to commands.
